Jupiter Wagons

In the state of Uttarakhand, together with campatriot Madhav Infra Projects Ltd., Indian mobility solutions provider Jupiter Wagons Limited (533272:BOM) has won a contract to install a 41- MW/102.5 MWh standalone battery energy system (BESS).

Jupiter Wagons announced that it clinched the contract through a competitive bidding process conducted by Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) and will execute the project via its energy division, JEM Energy.

The contract encompasses the provision and installation of the approximately INR 1 billion (USD 10.33m/EUR 9.21m) battery energy storage system (BESS).

Recently, Jupiter Wagons secured a significant deal following a Letter of Award (LoA) from the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) in August. This contract involves the installation of a robust 50-MW/200-MWh standalone battery in West Bengal. These achievements are set against the backdrop of India’s endorsement of the Green Energy Corridor Phase-III initiative, which aims to enhance the nation’s Intra-State Transmission System (InSTS). This ambitious scheme is designed to enable the efficient evacuation of up to 135 GW of renewable energy and support the deployment of 50 GWh of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capacity.

Jupiter Wagons, which manufactures batteries of electric vehicles and containerized BESS units for utility-scale projects, aims to build a BESS order book of roughly INR 10 billion by fiscal 2027. “Winning the Uttarakhand project and receiving the formal award for Jeerat are important steps in building JEM Energy into a scalable energy storage business,” said Vivek Lohia, managing director of Jupiter Wagons.
