Shri Pralahad Joshi

Shri Pralahad Joshi, the Minister for New and Renewable Energy, said on Thursday at the Windergy India 2026 conference that the government is working on the strategies to “re-power” around 25 GW of old wind energy projects in the country.

He also said that “these projects are nearing the end of their life. Parts are getting old, so we are working to repower them.” He also said that around 25 GW of such wind capacity would be added, without sharing further details, including location.

Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh stand out as the top states in terms of installed wind energy capacity. According to Joshi, India currently boasts an operational wind capacity of approximately 59 GW, and the nation is poised to reach its ambitious target of 100 GW by 2030.

In the fiscal year 2026, India successfully added 6.05 GW of wind capacity, with expectations for even greater additions in the current fiscal year. Between April and September, India saw an increase of 3 GW in wind capacity.
