In a major push towards clean energy adoption in the education sector, solar power systems will soon be installed in 130 government schools across Gurgaon. The initiative is part of a wider school infrastructure programme and is aimed at improving power reliability, reducing electricity expenses and introducing renewable energy solutions into public institutions.
Officials said the move is expected to provide a more dependable power supply to schools, helping them manage daily operations more efficiently, especially during periods of high electricity demand and outages. With solar systems in place, schools are also likely to see a reduction in their power bills, allowing resources to be used more effectively for academic and infrastructure needs.
The project forms part of a broader infrastructure plan worth around ₹700 crore, under which school facilities in the city are being upgraded. Along with supporting energy savings, the solar rollout is expected to strengthen environmental awareness among students by bringing clean energy directly into the school ecosystem.
The initiative reflects a growing trend of integrating renewable energy into government infrastructure, particularly in schools and other public service institutions where daytime electricity consumption is high. If implemented effectively, the Gurgaon project could become a model for similar solar-led interventions in the education sector across other districts as well.
