PM Modi Launches ₹47,000 Crore Projects in Odisha, Announces Pahadpur as Solar Village

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth around ₹47,000 crore in Odisha, while also announcing that Pahadpur village in Mayurbhanj district will be developed as a model solar village. The announcement came during his visit to the state on the occasion of President Droupadi Murmu’s birthday and as the Odisha government completed two years in office.

Addressing a public gathering in Mayurbhanj, the Prime Minister said Pahadpur, the native village of President Murmu, will be rapidly developed so that every household gets access to solar energy. He said the village would build a distinct identity around renewable energy, drawing a symbolic link with Odisha’s long association with the sun through the Konark Sun Temple.

The Prime Minister said the Centre and the state government are working together to convert Odisha’s natural strengths into new economic opportunities, with fresh investments flowing into industry, energy, transport and urban development.

Modi also used the occasion to underline the Centre’s focus on eastern India. He highlighted the state’s growing investment momentum and said the current round of projects would support employment generation, improve services and create new development opportunities across the state.

The visit carried symbolic significance as well, with President Droupadi Murmu and the Prime Minister jointly visiting Pahadpur earlier in the day and offering prayers at sacred tribal groves in Mayurbhanj. Modi extended birthday wishes to the President and praised her journey from a tribal village in Odisha to the country’s highest constitutional office, describing it as a source of pride for the state and the nation.

The announcement of Pahadpur as a solar village adds a renewable energy dimension to the larger development push in Odisha and signals an effort to link rural development with clean energy access. If implemented at scale, the initiative could turn the village into a showcase for decentralised solar adoption in tribal and rural regions.
