Brookfield Launches 'Lumara' Renewable Energy Platform, Commits $600 Million for India

Global investment firm Brookfield has launched Lumara, a dedicated renewable energy platform for India, with plans to invest approximately $600 million in accelerating the development of clean energy projects across the country. The platform will begin operations with an initial portfolio of more than 6 GW spanning solar, wind and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

Lumara has been established to address key bottlenecks that often delay renewable energy projects, including slow power purchase agreement (PPA) execution, grid connectivity constraints and land acquisition challenges. By advancing projects earlier in their lifecycle, the platform aims to speed up construction and bring renewable capacity online more efficiently.

Brookfield is making the investment through its Catalytic Transition Fund, which focuses on financing clean energy and energy transition assets in emerging markets. The company already has nearly 45 GW of wind and solar assets operating or under development in India and has invested more than $32 billion across infrastructure, energy, real estate and private equity in the country.

The platform will cater to the growing clean power requirements of commercial and industrial consumers, including global corporations, hyperscale data centres and government entities. By combining renewable generation with battery storage, Lumara aims to provide reliable, flexible and scalable power solutions that support India’s decarbonisation goals.

Industry experts believe the launch of Lumara reflects rising global investor confidence in India’s renewable energy sector. With large-scale investments in solar, wind and energy storage, the platform is expected to strengthen the country’s clean energy ecosystem while contributing to its target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.
