Jaipur: In a major step towards strengthening sustainable public transportation, the Rajasthan government is preparing to roll out 500 electric buses (e-buses) across the state by August 2026. The initiative is aimed at promoting cleaner mobility solutions, reducing fuel consumption, and improving public transport infrastructure amid rising urbanisation and traffic challenges.
The roadmap for the e-bus expansion was reviewed during a high-level meeting held at the Government Secretariat under the chairmanship of Shri V. Srinivas, Chief Secretary, Rajasthan. Senior officials from the Transport Department, Autonomous Governance Department, Jaipur City Transport Services Limited, and the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) participated in the discussions focused on accelerating the state’s transition towards eco-friendly transportation systems.
The proposed rollout aligns with the broader vision of promoting green mobility and enhancing environmentally sustainable public transport networks across Rajasthan.
Nine Modern E-Bus Depots Planned
To support the upcoming electric bus fleet, the state government plans to establish nine dedicated e-bus depots equipped with modern infrastructure and operational facilities. The move is expected to improve urban mobility while addressing concerns related to pollution and traffic congestion in major cities.
Officials stated that the introduction of electric buses will help reduce dependence on conventional fuel-based transportation systems while offering commuters a cleaner and more efficient travel experience.
During the meeting, Chief Secretary V. Srinivas emphasised the government’s commitment to building a safer, more accessible, and passenger-friendly public transport ecosystem for both urban and rural regions. He noted that the deployment of e-buses would contribute significantly towards reducing vehicular emissions and fuel consumption while improving overall transportation services.
RSRTC to Expand Existing Fleet
Alongside the electric mobility initiative, the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation is also working towards expanding its conventional bus fleet to strengthen long-distance and intercity connectivity.
As part of the expansion plan, RSRTC is expected to induct 144 Blue-Line buses and 30 AC Sleeper buses by August this year. The additional buses are aimed at improving passenger convenience, increasing operational capacity, and enhancing travel comfort across key routes in the state.
Officials highlighted that the growing demand for reliable public transportation, driven by rapid urban expansion and increasing commuter traffic, has accelerated the need for modernisation and fleet augmentation.
Focus on Sustainable and Accessible Mobility
The state government’s transport strategy focuses on balancing sustainability with passenger convenience. By integrating electric mobility with expanded public transport services, Rajasthan aims to reduce carbon emissions, strengthen urban transport systems, and encourage greater adoption of public transit over private vehicles.

The initiative is also expected to support the development of modern transport infrastructure while contributing to the broader clean energy and climate goals being pursued at both state and national levels.
Once fully implemented, the expanded e-bus network and upgraded RSRTC fleet are likely to play a crucial role in reshaping Rajasthan’s public transportation ecosystem, making mobility more efficient, environmentally sustainable, and accessible for citizens across the state.
