Oil India Ltd (OIL)

Oil India Ltd (OIL), a state-owned enterprise, announced on Friday the exciting discovery of natural gas in the previously unexplored Matsyapuri formation located in the Krishna-Godavari Basin.

The company revealed that production testing commenced on October 16, 2026, yielding a natural gas flow of approximately 100,000 standard cubic meters per day (SCUMD), with peak flow rates reaching 200,000 SCUMD during ongoing assessments.

Additionally, OIL reported a condensate output of around 170 barrels per day (bopd), characterised by an API gravity of 55.8 and a wellhead pressure of 1,815 psi.

The Godavari-1 appraisal well was strategically drilled in the shallow offshore regions of the Krishna-Godavari Basin, specifically within the KG-DSF/GSKW/2018 Discovered Small Field block, where OIL serves as the sole operator.

Hydrocarbons were identified at depths between 2,024 and 2,027 metres in one of the designated pay zones, according to the company’s findings.

The company announced that they are gearing up to evaluate the subsequent upper zone.
