NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to develop renewable energy and green hydrogen projects in the state. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos, Switzerland.
The MoU is aimed at supporting Uttar Pradesh’s clean energy transition by enabling the supply of renewable power for green hydrogen production and related infrastructure. Officials said the partnership would help scale up sustainable energy technologies while contributing to national climate and decarbonisation goals.
Focus on clean power and green hydrogen
Under the agreement, NGEL and the Uttar Pradesh government will collaborate on planning and implementing renewable energy solutions to back green hydrogen projects across the state. The partnership is expected to support the creation of clean power assets, facilitate project execution, and promote innovative approaches to low-carbon energy deployment.
State officials said the initiative would strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s renewable energy ecosystem and support industrial decarbonisation, especially in energy-intensive sectors that are expected to adopt green hydrogen in the coming years.
MoU signing and key participants
The MoU was signed by Vijay Kiran Anand, CEO of Invest UP and UPSIDA, and DMR Panda, Executive Director, NTPC Green Energy Limited. The signing ceremony was attended by Uttar Pradesh Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna, along with senior officials from the state government and NTPC Group.
An official present at the event said the agreement reflects growing cooperation between state governments and central public sector enterprises to accelerate India’s clean energy ambitions.
Strategic importance for the state
The partnership is expected to facilitate large-scale renewable energy deployment in Uttar Pradesh and position the state as an emerging hub for green hydrogen development. It is also likely to attract further investments and private sector participation in renewable and hydrogen projects.
