Eco Wave Power Secures Initial Purchase Order from Bharat Petroleum

Eco Wave Power Global AB (publ) (Eco Wave Power), a pioneering force in onshore wave energy technology, has reached an exciting new chapter in its partnership with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), one of India’s foremost government-owned energy giants and a member of the Fortune 500. This milestone follows the recent issuance of a purchase order for the initial site assessment phase of their ambitious wave energy project in Mumbai, India.

BPCL has commissioned a thorough site assessment study at its Marine Oil Terminals located at Jawahar Deep, Mumbai. This study marks the first step in the implementation process, following the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Eco Wave Power and BPCL during India Energy Week in 2025, witnessed by India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, alongside BPCL’s then Chairman and Managing Director, G. Krishnakumar.

The purpose of this assessment is to explore the technical feasibility and site conditions for deploying Eco Wave Power’s cutting-edge onshore wave energy technology within BPCL’s existing marine infrastructure, aiming to propel the planned pilot installation forward.

The purchase order outlines a comprehensive assessment that will encompass the creation of an in-depth site evaluation and action plan, a metocean analysis focusing on local marine conditions, and a conclusive site assessment report. This work is anticipated to be finalised within four months following the issuance of the purchase order.

This advancement signifies a crucial milestone in transforming the strategic partnership between Eco Wave Power and BPCL into tangible project development efforts, showcasing ongoing progress in integrating wave energy technology into India’s energy landscape.

Inna Braverman, the founder and CEO of Eco Wave Power, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled to witness our collaboration with Bharat Petroleum evolve from a Memorandum of Understanding into its inaugural implementation phase.

“When we formalised our agreement during India Energy Week in 2025, we envisioned how India’s abundant wave energy resources could play a pivotal role in the nation’s clean energy future. Today, we are taking yet another significant stride toward realising that vision.”

This milestone is especially thrilling for Eco Wave Power, as it highlights the increasing enthusiasm of leading global energy firms for our innovative technology and the promising opportunity to incorporate wave energy generation into current marine facilities.

“India represents an extraordinary opportunity, with an estimated 40,000 MW of untapped ocean energy potential. We believe that our collaboration with BPCL, beginning with the planned pilot in Mumbai, can serve as an important foundation for exploring larger commercial-scale wave energy projects in the country.

We look forward to advancing the assessment phase and continuing to work with BPCL toward bringing our innovative technology to India.”

Harnessing India’s Ocean Energy Potential

India stands at the forefront of renewable energy innovation, with ocean energy recognised as a key resource. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has projected an impressive potential of around 40,000 MW along the nation’s coastline.

BPCL, a prominent player in India’s energy sector, is dedicated to achieving net zero emissions by 2040. The company is actively seeking out cutting-edge renewable energy technologies to enhance its sustainability efforts.

In line with the 2025 Memorandum of Understanding, Eco Wave Power and BPCL are embarking on a collaborative journey to develop wave energy projects in India. This initiative will kick off with a feasibility study and a pilot installation at BPCL’s Marine Oil Terminals in Mumbai, paving the way for larger-scale commercial ventures in the future.

Eco Wave Power’s innovative technology harnesses the power of ocean waves to produce clean electricity by leveraging existing marine structures like breakwaters, piers, and jetties, while ensuring that the energy conversion equipment remains conveniently located onshore.

The recent purchase order marks a significant step forward from the initial assessment phase and is anticipated to yield crucial technical insights that will inform decisions about the upcoming pilot installation.

The company is optimistic that the successful progression of this partnership could unlock new avenues for wave energy development in India, aligning with the nation’s renewable energy goals and showcasing the potential for seamlessly integrating wave energy solutions into current port and energy infrastructures.
