LPG

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has launched bidding for LPG pipeline projects worth ₹12,500 crore, aimed at transforming the country’s fuel transportation network.

The tenders cover multiple pipeline stretches designed to enhance the efficient movement of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) across key demand centres. The initiative is expected to reduce dependence on road and rail transport, lowering logistics costs while improving supply reliability.

The proposed pipeline network will play a crucial role in decongesting existing transportation channels and ensuring faster delivery of LPG, particularly to underserved and high-growth regions. By enabling bulk movement through pipelines, the projects are also expected to minimise transit losses and improve overall operational efficiency.

Industry experts highlight that pipeline-based transportation is not only more cost-effective but also environmentally favourable, as it significantly reduces carbon emissions compared to conventional trucking. The expansion aligns with India’s broader goal of building a cleaner and more resilient energy supply chain.

The bidding round is likely to attract strong participation from both public and private sector players, reflecting growing investor interest in midstream energy infrastructure. The projects are also expected to generate employment opportunities and stimulate regional economic development.

The move comes amid rising LPG demand driven by increased household penetration and government initiatives promoting cleaner cooking fuels. Strengthening pipeline infrastructure will be key to sustaining this growth while ensuring an uninterrupted supply.
