Amid escalating tensions in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump held a high-level phone conversation, focusing on the unfolding crisis and its implications for global energy security, while signalling the possibility of significant deals.
During the nearly 40-minute discussion, both leaders emphasised the strategic importance of maintaining stability in key energy corridors, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for global oil and gas flows and vital to India’s energy imports. The exchange comes at a time when regional instability and maritime disruptions have heightened concerns over supply and price.
The leaders also reviewed the broader trajectory of India–US relations, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. Notably, US officials indicated that “big-ticket” agreements, especially in the energy sector, could be finalised in the near term. These are expected to span areas such as energy trade, infrastructure development, and supply chain resilience, aligning with both countries’ strategic and economic priorities.

The conversation reflects coordination between New Delhi and Washington in navigating geopolitical uncertainty, while reinforcing efforts to ensure stability in global energy markets.
