In a significant development in India’s clean energy drive, Indian Oil Corporation has finalised the Levelized Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH) for the country’s largest green hydrogen generation facility, to be established at its Panipat Refinery & Petrochemical Complex. The company announced the update in an official statement on Friday.
Scheduled for commissioning by December 2027, the plant will generate 10,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. This output will replace the fossil-fuel-based hydrogen currently used in refinery operations, marking a substantial reduction in carbon emissions.
The initiative aligns with the National Green Hydrogen Mission and is a key component of IndianOil’s long-term decarbonisation strategy. The project marks IndianOil’s formal entry into the green hydrogen sector and will be the largest such initiative in India to date, playing a critical role in the company’s Net Zero ambitions.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos earlier this year, Indian Oil Chairman Arvinder Singh Sahney stated, “The green hydrogen plant is now alive. We have got very good bids for it. And now the tenders are under evaluation. Within a month or so, we will be able to award the job, and within two years, that 10,000 tons per annum plant at Panipat will be commissioned.”

The project aims to reinforce IndianOil’s leadership in India’s energy transition journey and significantly bolster the nation’s push toward green energy.
