Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the peace understanding reached between the United States and Iran, describing it as a positive step towards restoring stability in West Asia after months of conflict that disrupted trade, energy supplies, and regional security.
In a message shared on social media, the Prime Minister said the prolonged conflict had caused significant economic disruptions across the world and resulted in the loss of lives in several countries. He expressed confidence that the implementation of the agreement would contribute to lasting peace and help bring normalcy back to the region.
Modi also underlined the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation and commerce, a reference widely seen as linked to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical maritime routes for oil and gas transportation. The waterway plays a vital role in global energy trade and is particularly important for countries such as India that depend heavily on energy imports from the Gulf region.
The proposed agreement between Washington and Tehran is expected to formally end months of tensions and military confrontation in the region. Global leaders and international organisations have broadly welcomed the development, viewing it as an opportunity to reduce geopolitical uncertainty and improve economic confidence.
For India, stability in West Asia carries significant strategic and economic importance. The region remains a major source of the country’s crude oil and natural gas supplies while also supporting extensive trade and commercial ties. Any improvement in regional security and shipping conditions is expected to benefit energy markets and global supply chains.

The Prime Minister said India looks forward to further discussions on the remaining issues between the two countries and hopes the current understanding evolves into a comprehensive and sustainable agreement that contributes to long-term peace in the region.
