India has installed 15,206 MW of grid-connected rooftop solar capacity across sectors over the past five years, Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik informed Parliament in a written reply, according to a report by IANS. As of June 30, 2025, the country’s total non-fossil fuel-based electricity generation capacity has reached 242.78 GW.

Driving this clean energy momentum, the government is prioritising domestic manufacturing through the ₹24,000 crore production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for high-efficiency solar PV modules. Letters of Award have already been issued for the establishment of 48,337 MW of fully or partially integrated solar PV module manufacturing units.

Bihar Government Launches Twin Renewable Energy Policies to Power Green Investment Surge

Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, rooftop solar systems have been installed in 15.45 lakh households nationwide, including 5.23 lakh in Gujarat as of July 14, 2025. The scheme also supports the creation of a Model Solar Village in each district, with ₹800 crore allocated and ₹1 crore in central assistance earmarked per village.
