Uttar Pradesh Targets 20 GW Renewable Energy Capacity Within Three Years

Uttar Pradesh is aiming to raise its renewable energy generation capacity to 20 GW over the next two to three years, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced while outlining the state’s ambitious roadmap for clean energy growth. The target marks a sharp increase from the state’s current renewable energy capacity of nearly 6 GW and reflects its growing focus on sustainable power generation.

Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of SAEL Industries’ integrated solar cell and module manufacturing plant in Jewar, the Chief Minister said Uttar Pradesh is making rapid progress in renewable energy through large-scale investments in solar power, biofuels and green manufacturing. He added that the state’s clean energy expansion is being driven by coordinated efforts of both the central and state governments.

Adityanath highlighted the success of rooftop solar initiatives, noting that more than six lakh families across the state have already become energy self-reliant through solar installations, helping households reduce electricity bills while contributing to cleaner energy production. He also pointed to Uttar Pradesh’s growing ethanol and biogas sectors as key pillars of the state’s broader green energy strategy.

The Chief Minister said Jewar is set to emerge as a major solar manufacturing hub, with new investments expected to strengthen domestic production of solar cells and modules while creating employment opportunities and reducing dependence on imports. The manufacturing ecosystem being developed in the region is also expected to support India’s expanding renewable energy ambitions.

With an aggressive renewable energy target, expanding manufacturing capacity and continued policy support, Uttar Pradesh is positioning itself as one of India’s fastest-growing clean energy destinations. Industry experts believe the state’s focus on generation, manufacturing and consumer adoption could play an important role in advancing the country’s energy transition over the coming years.
