Vedanta

Vedanta Ltd has signed a 500 MW power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (TNPDCL) for electricity supply between February 2026 and January 2031 at a tariff of ₹5.38 per kWh.

Under the arrangement, Meenakshi Energy Ltd (MEL), a Vedanta subsidiary, will supply 300 MW, while the Vedanta Ltd Chhattisgarh Thermal Power Plant (VLCTPP) will contribute 200 MW. The company secured the largest share in TNPDCL’s 1,580 MW tender.

According to the company, the long-term PPA enhances revenue visibility and strengthens the financial position of its power business, which is being reorganised under the “Vedanta Power” brand as part of an ongoing demerger plan. MEL has been revived to full capacity within two years, while efforts are underway to operationalise VLCTPP.

The agreement marks a significant milestone for Vedanta’s power-generation arm and underscores its strategy to expand baseload capacity and participate more actively in India’s independent power producer segment.
