Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone for Adani Power’s proposed 3,200 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Chapar, Dhubri district, marking the start of a project with an estimated investment of ₹48,000 crore.
The project will comprise four units of 800 MW each and is expected to add to Assam’s power generation capacity while creating employment opportunities and supporting local businesses.

- Adani Power was selected through a competitive bidding process in October 2025, followed by the Letter of Award from Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd in November 2025.

Speaking at the foundation ceremony, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the project would support employment generation and economic activity in Assam. He also highlighted its potential contribution to state revenues and opportunities for local enterprises.

Adani Group Director Jeet Adani said the project would support the availability of electricity for households, businesses and industries, while creating opportunities for local contractors and suppliers.
The project is part of Assam’s efforts to expand its power infrastructure and follows investment commitments made during the Advantage Assam Investor Summit 2.0 held in February 2025.
