India is on the verge of crossing 300 GW of installed non-fossil fuel power capacity, marking another significant milestone in the country’s clean energy journey. Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi said India’s clean power capacity has already reached nearly 297 GW, accounting for more than half of the nation’s total installed electricity capacity.

The minister said the achievement reflects the rapid expansion of renewable energy over the past decade, driven by large-scale investments in solar, wind, hydro and other clean energy sources. India continues to move steadily towards its target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power capacity by 2030, one of the world’s most ambitious energy transition goals.

Joshi also highlighted the progress of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, noting that the flagship rooftop solar programme is expected to benefit more than 50 lakh households in the coming weeks. The scheme is helping expand residential solar adoption while reducing electricity bills and promoting clean energy generation at the household level.

The government has attributed the rapid growth in clean energy capacity to sustained policy support, competitive renewable energy auctions, improved transmission infrastructure and increased domestic manufacturing of solar modules and related equipment. These initiatives have strengthened investor confidence and accelerated renewable energy deployment across the country.
