CNG supply

CNG availability across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, covering Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai, was severely affected after a major GAIL pipeline was damaged during third-party excavation work inside the Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilisers (RCF) premises, PTI reported. The incident disrupted gas flow to the Wadala City Gate Station operated by Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), which supplies CNG to most of the region.

Following the damage, several CNG stations either shut down temporarily or began operating with significantly reduced pressure. The disruption has had a noticeable impact on public transport, particularly auto-rickshaws, taxis, and a section of bus fleets that depend heavily on CNG. Commuters in various parts of the city reported delays and reduced availability of vehicles throughout the day.

MGL stated that restoring supply to residential piped natural gas (PNG) consumers remains its highest priority, and household PNG supply has largely been maintained despite the outage. However, industrial and commercial consumers have been advised to shift to alternate fuels until normal gas flow is resumed.

Repair teams from GAIL and RCF initiated restoration work soon after the incident, but authorities have not announced a definite timeline for when full CNG pressure and supply will return to normal. The company has urged consumers to stay updated through official advisories as repair work continues.
