JSW Energy has inaugurated India’s largest green hydrogen production facility at Vijayanagar, Karnataka, a major milestone in advancing the nation’s clean energy and industrial decarbonisation goals. The project has been developed under the Government of India’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for green hydrogen and marks JSW Energy’s entry into large-scale green fuel manufacturing.

Situated next to the JSW Steel plant, the new facility will supply green hydrogen and oxygen directly to the company’s Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) unit. Under a seven-year agreement, JSW Energy will provide around 3,800 tonnes of green hydrogen and 30,000 tonnes of green oxygen annually. The project is also part of JSW’s allocation under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) programme led by the Solar Energy Corporation of India.

To meet growing demand for low-carbon industrial inputs, JSW Energy and JSW Steel have also signed an MoU to expand supply to up to 90,000 tonnes of hydrogen and 720,000 tonnes of oxygen per year by 2030. The initiative aims to support greener steelmaking processes and reduce emissions across the company’s operations.

Currently, JSW Energy’s total power portfolio stands at approximately 30.5 GW, covering thermal, hydro, and renewable sources. The company is also scaling up energy storage capacity to 40 GWh by 2030. With the commissioning of this project, JSW Energy reinforces its commitment to building a self-reliant green hydrogen ecosystem and contributing to India’s broader net-zero transition.
