The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and the Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop indigenous technologies for India’s nuclear power programme. The collaboration is aimed at reducing dependence on imported systems while strengthening the country’s capabilities in critical nuclear technologies.

Both organisations, which operate under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), will establish a long-term technology partnership covering the development of control and instrumentation systems, computer-based systems, nuclear instrumentation, training simulators, cyber security solutions and other advanced technologies required for nuclear power plants.

The partnership will support both existing and upcoming nuclear reactors by developing reliable, secure and locally designed technologies. It will also focus on providing long-term lifecycle support for reactor systems, addressing technology obsolescence and improving standardisation across India’s expanding nuclear fleet.

Officials said the collaboration aligns with the government’s vision of achieving greater self-reliance in strategic sectors through indigenous research, innovation and manufacturing. By combining NPCIL’s expertise in nuclear power generation with ECIL’s strengths in electronics and instrumentation, the two public sector enterprises aim to accelerate the deployment of advanced technologies across future nuclear projects.
