Honda Motor has announced plans to establish India as a global manufacturing hub for its new electric vehicles (EVs), strengthening its localisation and export ambitions.
The company’s Indian subsidiary, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI), is already developing a dedicated electric-vehicle manufacturing unit under project “Factory E”, part of its broader “3E” roadmap, which also includes the EV platform “Platform E” and “Workshop E” for after-sales services.

Honda’s global leadership has stated the India-dedicated EV facility will begin operations in the coming years and is part of its goal to achieve substantial volume EV production by 2030. The facility is expected to cater both to the domestic market and to exports, leveraging India’s manufacturing ecosystem, supply-chain localisation and “Make in India” incentives.
The announcement comes amid India’s push to scale domestic EV manufacturing, supported by government initiatives such as the Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India (SPMECPI).
