India added a record 44.5 gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy capacity till November 2025, including nearly 35 GW from solar power, according to an official statement issued on Monday.
The country’s total installed renewable energy capacity rose to 253.96 GW in November 2025, marking an increase of over 23 per cent from 205.52 GW recorded a year earlier, the statement from Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said.
The highest-ever renewable energy capacity addition has been achieved in 2025 so far. Capacity addition during the year till November stood at 44.51 GW, almost double the 24.72 GW added during the same period last year.
Solar energy accounted for the largest share of the growth. Solar capacity addition during the period was 34.98 GW, compared to 20.85 GW in the corresponding period last year. Total installed solar capacity reached 132.85 GW in November 2025, up over 41 per cent from 94.17 GW in November 2024.

Wind power capacity also recorded growth, with additions of 5.82 GW till November, compared to 3.2 GW during the same period last year. India’s wind energy installed capacity crossed the 50 GW mark in March 2025 and stood at 53.99 GW in November 2025, an increase of over 12.5 per cent from 47.96 GW a year earlier.
Separately, in a post on X, Pralhad Joshi said rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana had crossed the 25-lakh household mark. He said the expansion of rooftop solar was progressing under the leadership of Narendra Modi, enabling households to access cleaner power and reduce electricity bills.
