MEIL Energy Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL), has announced the completion of its acquisition of a 100 per cent equity stake in TAQA Neyveli Power Company Pvt Ltd from Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA). The acquisition includes the operation of a 250 MW lignite-based power plant located in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu.
The Neyveli facility, a base-load thermal power station, is equipped with a long-term power purchase agreement with the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), ensuring a stable supply arrangement. Through this acquisition, MEIL strengthens its portfolio in India’s power generation sector, which now exceeds 5.2 GW of installed capacity spanning thermal, hydro, and renewable energy projects.

Company officials said the acquisition is a strategic addition that enhances MEIL’s presence in the southern region and reinforces its commitment to supporting India’s growing energy requirements. The company intends to maintain operational reliability and optimise plant performance through technological and efficiency-focused improvements.
The acquisition also reflects a growing trend of domestic energy companies expanding into integrated operations across generation, transmission, and distribution. MEIL has been steadily diversifying its portfolio, investing in renewable energy and other infrastructure sectors alongside conventional power.
With the transaction now concluded, MEIL Energy is expected to take over the management and operational responsibilities of the Neyveli plant in coordination with existing stakeholders, ensuring a smooth transition and continued power supply to the regional grid.
