Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced that India is set to export electric vehicles (EVs) to 100 countries, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s growing automobile sector. Speaking at a recent media summit, he underscored research as a vital pillar of national progress, stressing that while imported research can help survival, it cannot fulfil India’s ambitions.
Highlighting the government’s focus on research-driven policies, Modi recalled how swift initiatives have created platforms to boost innovation. He contrasted the present with the past, noting that until 2014, India’s annual automobile exports were around ₹50,000 crore, while today they have surged to ₹1.2 lakh crore. India, he said, has also started exporting metro coaches, rail coaches, and locomotives. “Another success story of India is that we are now going to export electric vehicles to 100 countries. A major programme related to this will take place on August 26,” he added.
Pointing to strong economic fundamentals, Modi asserted that solid foundations deliver results across sectors. He recalled speaking about India’s economic trajectory on Independence Day, noting that subsequent developments have only reinforced the country’s growth story. Citing official data, he revealed that 22 lakh formal jobs were added to the EPFO database in June 2025, the highest ever in a single month.
He further underlined that retail inflation is at its lowest level since 2017, while India’s foreign exchange reserves have hit an all-time high. Solar PV module manufacturing capacity, which stood at just 2.5 GW in 2014, has now reached the landmark of 100 GW. Another milestone, he said, was Delhi Airport joining the elite “Hundred-Million-Plus Club” of global airports, making it one of only six worldwide capable of handling more than 100 million passengers annually.

Modi also drew attention to S&P Global Ratings upgrading India’s credit rating for the first time in nearly two decades, calling it a recognition of the nation’s resilience and reforms. “India, guided by the mantra of Reform, Perform, and Transform, is helping the world break free from slow growth. We are not people who throw pebbles into stagnant waters; we are those who can redirect fast-flowing streams,” he said.
Reiterating his Independence Day message, the Prime Minister concluded by affirming that India now possesses the strength to reshape even the course of time.
