New ₹700 Crore EV Park to Power Uttar Pradesh’s Sustainable Growth

In a major step towards promoting green mobility and industrial development, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced plans to establish a ₹700 crore Electric Vehicle (EV) park in Kanpur. The ambitious project, spanning 500 acres, will be executed by the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) under the Kanpur Metropolitan Development Vision 2030.

According to an official statement issued on Monday, the park will be located near Bhimsen along the strategically significant Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC). It will be developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to transform Kanpur into a leading hub for electric vehicle manufacturing in India.

The government emphasised that the proposed EV park aims to strengthen the domestic EV supply chain and boost indigenous production capabilities. “This initiative is designed to position Kanpur as a key player in the national EV ecosystem by supporting local manufacturing and promoting sustainable energy adoption,” the statement said.

The park will accommodate advanced manufacturing units producing essential EV components such as electric motors, chassis, steel parts, and lithium-ion cells. In addition, the facility will include dedicated units for assembling batteries, chargers, controllers, and critical electronic parts required in electric vehicles.

A cornerstone of the project will be a dedicated research and development (R&D) centre focused on innovation and the advancement of EV technologies. This centre is expected to facilitate regional technological growth while also contributing to global developments in electric mobility.

To further enhance the manufacturing ecosystem, an integrated EV components cluster is being planned within the park. This cluster will empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs), startups, and local entrepreneurs to actively engage in the EV value chain. The government envisions this initiative as a catalyst for local enterprise growth, economic development, and employment generation.

Officials highlighted that the park’s location near the DFC offers a distinct logistical advantage. Its proximity to major rail and road networks will enable efficient transportation of raw materials and finished goods, thereby reducing operational costs and time.

The project is expected to significantly benefit the regional economy. By fostering innovation, creating direct and indirect employment opportunities, and nurturing entrepreneurship, the EV park will contribute to both industrial expansion and environmental sustainability in the state.

The Uttar Pradesh government reiterated its commitment to fostering clean technologies and industrial modernization through infrastructure projects of this scale. As part of its broader developmental vision, the EV park in Kanpur marks a crucial step towards aligning state growth strategies with national priorities for sustainable mobility and carbon emission reduction. Once operational, the facility is anticipated to play a pivotal role in accelerating EV adoption, making Uttar Pradesh a cornerstone of India’s clean energy transition.
