The Delhi government is set to roll out a fresh electric vehicle (EV) policy aimed at encouraging citizens to adopt cleaner transportation alternatives, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Saturday during her valedictory address at the Aironomics 2025 convention.

Highlighting key anti-pollution measures, CM said the new policy envisions converting all vehicles, including private ones, into electric vehicles. “We will urge people to purchase electric vehicles for which they will be provided subsidies,” she stated.

The Chief Minister emphasised that air pollution in Delhi is not a seasonal concern but a year-round challenge, necessitating sustained intervention. To tackle dust pollution, the government will deploy 1,000 water sprinklers that will operate during early morning and late-night hours to avoid traffic congestion.

In addition, integrated machines capable of mechanical sweeping, water sprinkling, and litter collection will be placed across all 70 Assembly constituencies in Delhi.

Calling for public participation in the fight against pollution, Gupta urged citizens to support the government’s initiatives such as biomass burning control, afforestation efforts, and EV adoption.

Former New and Renewable Energy Secretary Bhupinder Bhalla, addressing a session titled “Turning the Tide: Delhi’s Moment to Lead on Clean Air”, said that both the Central and Delhi governments need to synchronise their efforts for more effective pollution control. “Earlier one would say not much is happening, but now there’s momentum. With common governments and aligned local bodies, implementation will be quicker and more unified,” Bhalla said in an interaction with media.

Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) Chairman Sanjiv Kumar underscored the need for real-time, cost-efficient pollution monitoring technologies. “If we can identify whether a plant in a particular location is causing a surge, we’ll be able to intervene more effectively,” he said.

The convention also witnessed the launch of Phase 2 of the Air Quality Action Forum (AQAF), jointly announced by the Paytm Foundation and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The initiative aims to equip cities and innovators with the necessary data, tools, and financing models to scale up clean air solutions.
