solar energy hub

In a major stride toward a green energy revolution, the Uttar Pradesh government has intensified its policy-driven efforts to establish the state as a solar energy hub, particularly in regions like Bundelkhand, Vindhya, and adjoining areas. As part of this vision, initial agreements have been signed with the Smart Energy Council of Australia and the Hinduja Group, signalling international collaboration for clean energy advancement.

An official statement highlighted that the government has set an ambitious target to generate 500 gigawatts of solar power by 2030. These developments form part of a broader strategy to not only enhance energy capacity but also create widespread employment across solar panel manufacturing, installation, maintenance, grid integration, and transmission sectors.

To support this transition, the Solar Mitra Yojana has been launched to train a skilled workforce in the solar domain. When Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath assumed office in 2017, the state’s solar energy production stood at a modest 288 MW. That figure has now increased tenfold, with momentum continuing under the Solar Energy Policy 2022, which outlines a near-term target of 2,200 MW.

As per the statement, the government will establish solar parks in all municipal corporations and install solar grids along expressways and railway lines. Streetlights across cities will be powered by solar energy, and transmission infrastructure is set to be significantly strengthened, especially in Bundelkhand.

Ayodhya is being developed as a solar city, with 16 other municipal corporations and Noida also undergoing phased solar transformation. Major solar parks are planned in Jhansi, Jalaun, Chitrakoot, Lalitpur, Kanpur City, and Kanpur Dehat. The Bundelkhand Expressway is poised to become India’s first solar expressway, setting a new benchmark in sustainable infrastructure.

The state is also doubling down on rooftop solar adoption through aggressive promotion of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. The target for rooftop solar installations for FY 2025-26 has been raised to 2.65 lakh units, reflecting Uttar Pradesh’s firm commitment to a sustainable and energy-secure future.
