EV Registrations

Electric vehicle registrations in India surged by 17% in the financial year 2024-25, reaching 19.7 lakh units, as per data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). This significant growth—from 1.68 million units in FY24 to 1.97 million units in FY25—has been attributed to supportive government policies and the introduction of new EV models by major manufacturers.

Electric passenger vehicle registrations crossed the 1 lakh mark, reflecting an 18% increase over the previous fiscal. Electric two-wheelers also witnessed strong momentum, registering a 21% growth to reach 11.5 lakh units in FY25. In the three-wheeler segment, EV registrations climbed by 10.5%, with around 7 lakh units added during the year.

SIAM credited this uptrend to proactive policy interventions such as the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme (EMPS), rolled out from April 1 to September 30, 2024. These were further bolstered by the PM E-DRIVE and PM-eBus Sewa schemes, which have enhanced the overall EV ecosystem. The combination of government backing and robust product pipelines has helped accelerate EV adoption across India, the industry body said.
